Digital Identity - Kyle Eastman 05/31/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman brings us the lesson titled 'Digital Identity'. Kyle shares scriptures from the books of Galatians, Timothy, and Proverbs. Kyle asks: How is our identity and new reality being formed by our interactions with others through social media and social interactions? How much do we focus ourselves on what others post about their views? Are we focusing on messages and echo chambers where the only things we hear are views which simply confirm our own biases? Kyle reminds us that true Christian thinking is communal not isolated. While communal thinking can create friction, it also is diverse, and is humble. Your primary identity will shape the way you think about everything else in life. Through the lens of Jesus, is where everything should be viewed before convictions are formed. We must always remember: The ground is level at the foot of the cross.

The Abolition of Thought - Kyle Eastman 05/24/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'The Abolition of Thought'. Beginning with a reading from 2 Chronicles 18: vs 1 through 27, Kyle discusses how we must be intentional in how we are formed as a disciple. He challenges us to think about how we are interacting with social media. Kyle reminds us that social media needs outrage to thrive. Like King Ahab who looked for someone agree with him, social media can be used in the same way where we use it to confirm how we feel or think. His challenge: For us to be disciples of Jesus, we must be careful with our thinking, taking captive of every thought. We should not be quick or hasty with our words or judgments, but have deliberated restraint, exercise patient examination, and humble curiosity.

How it is His will that we live a life loving others, being a missionary right in our own neighborhood and town. That love is a practice that directs our life. One Thing You Lack - Max Plager 04/26/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Max Plager, from the west region, shares the lesson 'One Thing You Lack'. Max, reading from Mark 10, teaches us about discipleship and what it takes to be disciple of Jesus. How in the Bible, the word Christian and disciple are used to mean the same type of person. That discipleship is a simply a response to God’s grace that we live out each day. God will call you to 'de-throne' whatever is currently on the 'throne' of your heart. Max reminds us, for Jesus, you don't have to give up everything, but you have to be willing to give up anything. That we have to trust that we will be given more than what we give up.

The Restlessness In Our Hearts - Andrew Elliott 04/05/26

Welcome to our Easter Service! This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Andrew Elliott shares the lesson 'The Restlessness In Our Hearts'. Andrew talks about how our restlessness and searching in the wrong place can be like a cancer in our lives. Reading in Genesis, Andrew teaches us how Adam and Eve did just that. They had the good life but then chose to reach for forbidden fruit out of restlessness. We often take something God has given us, and then put it above God. Andrew, reading in Luke 23 and 24, shares how the first century disciples were looking for Jesus in the tomb after he had risen. When the women looking for Jesus didn't find him, the two men in robes said 'Why do you look for the living among the dead?' Andrew's challenge: If you want life, you have to stop looking in the graveyard.

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'What Do You See?' What we see or notice in the Bible can depend on our background or expectations. Kyle asks: Are you really seeing and listening? In Ephesians, Paul prays that we would really see God and understand how he really feels about us.
