Mishpat: Restorative Justice - Kyle Eastman 06/28/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares a short lesson on 'Mishpat' and outlines how the church and each of us can serve those of need. Kyle, reading from Acts 2, reminds us how the early disciples 'gave to everyone who had need' and we must strive to do this as well. We see that the Old Testament word 'Mishpat', is more than charity. It is failing to care for the vulnerable and is a breakdown of justice. Our mission includes helping what is called the 'quartet of the vulnerable', widows, foreigners, orphans, and the poor.

Digital Identity - Kyle Eastman 05/31/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman brings us the lesson titled 'Digital Identity'. Kyle shares scriptures from the books of Galatians, Timothy, and Proverbs. Kyle asks: How is our identity and new reality being formed by our interactions with others through social media and social interactions? How much do we focus ourselves on what others post about their views? Are we focusing on messages and echo chambers where the only things we hear are views which simply confirm our own biases? Kyle reminds us that true Christian thinking is communal not isolated. While communal thinking can create friction, it also is diverse, and is humble. Your primary identity will shape the way you think about everything else in life. Through the lens of Jesus, is where everything should be viewed before convictions are formed. We must always remember: The ground is level at the foot of the cross.

The Abolition of Thought - Kyle Eastman 05/24/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'The Abolition of Thought'. Beginning with a reading from 2 Chronicles 18: vs 1 through 27, Kyle discusses how we must be intentional in how we are formed as a disciple. He challenges us to think about how we are interacting with social media. Kyle reminds us that social media needs outrage to thrive. Like King Ahab who looked for someone agree with him, social media can be used in the same way where we use it to confirm how we feel or think. His challenge: For us to be disciples of Jesus, we must be careful with our thinking, taking captive of every thought. We should not be quick or hasty with our words or judgments, but have deliberated restraint, exercise patient examination, and humble curiosity.

This Is Water - Kyle Eastman 05/17/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'This Is Water'. Kyle reading from Romans 12 shares how we are called not to conform to the world but to be transformed by God. How just like fish only know the water they live in, we too can be blind to our environment and the effects of it. Kyle teaches us how our relationship with information on the internet has changed us like nothing before. How we must be on guard against the patterns of this world that can lead us away from others, and away from God.

Eye of the Beholder - Kyle Eastman 03/22/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'Eye of the Beholder, What Are You Worth?' Reading from Ephesians 2, we see the why 'God made us alive in Christ', because of his great love for us. A love without prior conditions, but with the expectation we will respond with reciprocated love. We are attractive because God loves us. Kyle's challenge: What lies do you believe that have shaped your self-worth? And how has that impacted your life? The conclusion: Only God's opinion matters, not the opinion of the world around us.

Wells & Fences - Kyle Eastman 03/15/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'Wells & Fences'. Reading from the book of Mark, Kyle talks about how the Pharisees made laws and traditions like ceremonial washing. They didn't care about the person's heart, but that is all God cares about. These can be 'fences' that will point people away from God. His challenge: For us to look at our rules and traditions or 'fences' of thinking. How we must be more accepting of others as we see the direction they are going. To share God's love unconditionally (like the wells of the desert shepherds) in order to draw people closer to God through a message of love and mercy.

Healers in a Radioactive World - Kyle Eastman 02/22/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'Healers in a Radioactive World'. Kyle reads scriptures from the books of Mark, James, and others as he describes what the Kingdom of God is like, and how it is different than the world we live in. How in our current world, is seems like things all around us are destructive, the same way a radioactive place destroys all life. As part of the Kingdom of God, we must live a life fighting the sin in our lives that is 'toxic' to our soul, and toxic to others. His challenge: What is the 'non-kingdom' identity with the greatest potential to take first place in your life? Are you focusing on Jesus first or just living for worldly things?

The Healthy Fruit of a Careful Mind - Kyle Eastman 02/08/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'The Healthy Fruit of a Careful Mind'. Reading from the books of John and Proverbs, Kyle explores how we can doubt the existence of God in our lives. How we handle that doubt is critical to our faith, that carefully working through our doubts of faith is called ‘Wisdom’. How we should be watchful of doubt based on fear, discouragement, anxiety, or pride, that can be corrosive to our faith. Most of all watchful of doubt that is simply a cover up of sin.

The Beginning of Wisdom - Kyle Eastman 01/25/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman, reading from Psalms and Exodus, shares the lesson 'The Beginning of Wisdom'. Kyle helps us understand the verse in Psalms, 'So great is his love for those who ‘fear’ him'. How like a parent, fear and disciple are what gives us direction and security. To consider how God's true majesty is incomprehensible to us. That because we want God in our image, we struggle with who God really is. His challenge: To have a reverent posture as you go to God in prayer.
