HOPE Youth Corps & Volunteer Corps 2008

The 2008 HOPE worldwide Volunteer Corps application is now available!

HOPE worldwide Volunteer Corps (HVC) provides an incredible opportunity for singles, marrieds, and families to spend 10 to 12 days serving the world's most poor. HVC runs simultaneously with HOPE Youth Corps and gives participants an opportunity to visit and encourage Christians in churches outside of their local congregation. Participants are also given opportunities to play with, serve, and love children and families living in extreme poverty, following Jesus' commandments to love the unloved. There is daily time set aside where the HVC has the opportunity to join the HOPE Youth Corps for devotionals; these times are encouraged but not required for those travelling on the HOPE worldwide Volunteer Corps.

International locations this year include Cambodia - June 6-20 and Indonesia - August 1-15.

Within the U.S., individuals and families are able to serve in the Gulf Coast, helping with the continuation of HOPE worldwide's efforts to rebuild New Orleans.

Dates of HVC in the Gulf Coast, U.S. are July 7-17, July 21-31, and Aug 2-12.

Hurricane Help for Schools

The U.S. Department of Education has set up a Web page - "Hurricane Help for Schools" - that will serve as a clearinghouse of resources for Americans who want to help the students displaced by the hurricane. This Web page is a forum where schools, companies and organizations across the country can come together and work to help students displaced by the hurricane. Companies and organizations can respond to the needs of students and send resources directly to them, and schools will be able to directly contact the companies and organizations offering help. "Across the country, we are seeing families, communities and schools open their hearts and doors to children displaced by Hurricane Katrina," Education Secretary Margaret Spellings said. "We are committed to doing everything we can to help as local communities enroll these children in new schools." Secretary Spellings added, "This Web page will bring together the best of the American spirit and create a network of compassion and charity."
